Two Tons of Fun
An older woman came in with her 10 year old dachshund and it weighed over 45 lbs - they are supposed to weigh 1/2 of that. She's a new client and said her dog was having a hard time walking lately. I'm thinking 'no shit sherlock - she's a manatee with paws'. Of course, I was more tactful and got a history, did a physical exam, did x-rays to check her back, and bloodwork to be sure she could handle medications. She said 'whatever it takes to make her better'. As if I could cure the effect of morbid obesity on a dachshund back. When I brought her dog in after x-rays, her middle-aged son had arrived to help and damn if he didn't weigh over 400 lbs! They were quite a pair, and you guessed it, he lives with mom who cooks all his meals.
